... and because the internet loves lists, here are the top 5 things to know about me and my work:
1. I have a heart that beats digital.
From first seeing wire stories feeding through a computer’s intranet in the early 1990s, I was hooked. After a stint as a newspaper copy editor (where I helped set up their first website), I headed over to CNN Interactive CNN.com CNN Digital where I worked for nearly 20 years.
2. I’m both pro-active and the ultimate fixer.
From thorough communication and thinking five steps ahead, I keep my colleagues and clients informed on strategy, deadlines, next steps and progress so far. At CNN since 2000, I launched large initiatives with multiple moving parts from inception to maintenance. But I’ve also been called in multiple times to get other projects on track, troubleshoot problems, strategize best practices and increase communication between departments, network groups and third party vendors.
3. I bridge several worlds in the digital universe.
One of my strengths is being the hybrid connective tissue between the editorial, tech, product and business worlds -- and supporting a culture for others to champion that, too. The best stories, the best experiences, the best business deals all need an understanding, and appreciation, of all the components.
4. I organize, organize and then organize some more.
The best strategies are just strategy unless put into practice. I’ve researched topics and verticals, written pitches, created presentations and more to identify and create new opportunities in beats, blogs, special coverage, business partners and ways to optimize in-house and external resources. And then I lead teams to implement, review, adjust and push those projects. All while ensuring the user experience is optimum and technical quality is premium.
5. I like working with you.
You know that feeling when the conversation is just clicking at dinner or a party? I love to bring that mind meld and collaboration to work projects and the classroom – bringing together people from across groups so that that intellect, that diversity, that curiosity allows the group to create, to problem solve and to just plain get it done.
